“By Him let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name.”

— Hebrews 13:5

What do we, as Americans, have to be thankful for in the year 2020? How, in the midst of all that has gone wrong, can we “placidly” sit back and indulge in our turkey-and dressing dinners this year? Why should we thank God when He’s done so little for us. Basically, why bother? There is no doubt that this past Election Day was stressful on most politically active Americans. It is also certain that a large portion of Americans are now outraged about  the outcome. But as the first of the holidays draws near, it stands to reason that some people, maybe even you, will be asking any one of the following questions:

Why Bother Giving Thanks? What has God done for us?
What do we have to be grateful for this year?
How can we live normal lives when people are dying?

Firstly, there is one thing I shall make clear, We should are grateful because it is Commanded of us, (Eph. 5:20, Heb. 135, Phil. 4.6, 2 Cor. 4:15). God’s plan will always work out. If you are reading this, you can thank God that you are alive to witness Him in action

Furthermore, if you are reading this article, it probably means you are one of those people blessed enough to have the internet, the only way to access this article (as of its publication Thanksgiving Weekend, 2020).

If you are an American, you can thank God that you still live in the richest, most free country in the world this Thanksgiving. Capitalism is still the main national structure in many places. Public education is a common comfort. State-of-the-art medical care is within your state – even your county and hospitals are common. You still have the liberty to read this because I still have freedom of speech.

Moreover, if you are a Christian, you can thank God that this is a mere afterthought in His eternal eyes. Eternity for us, the family of Christ, will be glorious, It will not be marred by evil, death or destruction.

On the contrary, if you are not a Christian, stop and ask yourself who gives meaning to your life. Who gives breath to your lungs? Who promises you a shining eternity, made perfect by the death and resurrection of His Son, the death for sin taken by a sinless Man?

Wouldn’t you like to behold a day when peace, joy, and life define eternity? A day when the only worry of our minds is the eternity spent in the companionship of the Living God? The invitation is open for anyone. If you would accept this invitation to the Kingdom of Heaven, the Halls of the Living God, simply say the following words from your heart to the ears of the Lord Jesus:

“Lamb of God, I confess to You that I am a sinner. I acknowledge in my heart that You are the saviour. The desire of my soul is your mercy and grace. Come, Holy Spirit, into my life. Mold me and form me into the person You desire. Thank You, Lord Jesus,

Amen

If you petitioned Jesus truthfully in your heart, you can now thank God that on this day, you found this article which has set you on the road to Paradise, and angels are having a Thanksgiving celebration of a different type.

I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
— Luke 15:7
