As we struggle to navigate an ever-changing world defined by technology and innovations that keep us further apart, Christmas is the perfect time to slow down and remember the days of old—the days when we appreciated the slow, steady life with family, friends, and loved ones.
In this hypersonic culture accelerated by wireless communication, high-speed travel, and lives busied with meaningless running to and fro, our current society has lost its grip on many of the traditions that once punctuated the Christmas season: caroling, sleigh rides, parties, sunrise services, and the like. While these still exist in society, they are present only for those who seek them out, rather than being the custom of entire cities, towns, and regions.
These classic images of silver bells and frosty store windows have become the lore of movies, songs, and stories, but in an age gone by, they were common and well-appreciated. As we conclude this season and begin to approach a new year, it is my hope that our goal will be to help re-ignite the spirit of Christmas in the years to come.
